Lamb & Lemonade

hello my dear
let’s spend the afternoon together
gazebo views of the garden
snapdragons bloom
as we watch the swallows in the birdbath
we read aloud to each other
whimsy-laden conversation lying in the rain
hammock beckons always seconds of lamb and lemonade
luncheon for two
the fork’s in the drawer the plates are in the pantry
come sit my dear at our table
frames on the wall of moustachio’d men
they’re our uncles from the Boer War
red uniforms so impressive
whimsy-laden conversation sighing in the rain
hedgerow hoeing hogweed over-growing in the lane
my wife and I
we’re hanging out yeah we like to get together
it’s been an age since I’ve seen her
white picket fence
looks a bit grey now we’ll give it some attention
we’ll spend our time here forever
whimsy-laden conversation lying in the rain
hammock beckons always seconds of cheese and marmalade
whimsy-laden conversation sighing in the rain
hedgerow hoeing hogweed over-growing in the lane

this house of yellow brick
the walls aren’t very thick
the animals are curious
in hallways after dark
is heard a strange remark
it’s not too late to start again
maybe you never should have left me there
I couldn’t tread the water like you could
it’s hard to see the world
through someone else’s eyes
the blinds get pulled down low
inside must never show
the neighbours do seem curious
it was so easy then
but I’ll be happy when
this parlour game starts paying off

Legs Of A Dancer

plaid leisure suit
double knit polyester
dynomite in platform shoes
v neck collar
a smattering of chest hair
there’s no way this playboy can lose
they ask him
where do you want to go
he inquires
where are those ladies
he smiles
where is that dance floor
hello punchbowl
you can’t keep that groove locked up inside
let it shake
eat it like cake
legs of a dancer
she’s wearing fishnets
and he has the hook
she’s under his electric voodoo
he’s got a bottle of bubbly
four pills
and that look
who doesn’t love a bimbo
with dance moves
they ask him
where do you want to go
he inquires
where are those ladies
he smiles
where is that dance floor
ball of disco

wandered through a nation state of my own invention
no one can follow me there
there’s no map
no global positioning system
but this time its not a nightmare
I meet a curious wayfaring pilgrim
we stopped to share a canteen
she said it’s really irrelevant who you vote for
that is if you see what I see
if you see what I see
whatever was that I was wondering
it can’t bother me now
traveling down the open road of a dream vacation
forgotten fear of the dark
there is truth alive in the dimmest reflections
imaginations lit by a spark
roaming in a strange landscape of a conjurer’s fancy
peculiar hypothesis
and if your teacher aspires to be the master
assail him with no sympathy
no sympathy
